Heritage Trust of Nova Scotia Built Heritage Award

The Heritage Trust of Nova Scotia Built Heritage Awards Program recognizes excellence in the restoration of our province's built heritage considering nominations for properties in the following three categories:
- residential,
- commercial (or non-residential) and
- government-owned.

The Built Heritage Award is designed to recognize and honour an outstanding individual, group, company, or department of government that has preserved a part of Nova Scotian heritage in the form of a built structure. Submissions are accepted in two categories, residential and commercial. Special emphasis has been placed on the type of materials and building techniques used for the exterior and interior restoration/renovation, as well as the interesting of inventive re-use of an old structure.

The deadline for application is June 30, 2010

The Nomination Process

The award nomination form can be downloaded and printed from the website,  or can be requested by mail from the Heritage Trust office.

SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS ARE TO BE SUBMITTED IN A THREE-RING BINDER OR OTHER MANAGEABLE FORMAT AND SHOULD INCLUDE:

The Selection Process

The Awards Committee will then review the applications, inspect the projects, seek further information. They will then propose recipients to the Board of Trustees.

The Committee's recommendations are approved by our Board by end of September. The annual award recipients are then honoured at our Annual Dinner in November.

The Awards Committee may withhold the Award if no suitable nomination is presented.

Winner or winners will be our guests at our Annual banquet (November). There they will receive a citation for their category, with the building's history, and a picture of the winner and the building with its story will be posted on our website.

Winning submissions, with photography, plans, and drawings become the property of Heritage Trust of Nova Scotia and form part of the archival records for present and future study. These very informative and sometimes entertaining reference works are available to the public at the HTNS library (by appointment).
